Sazid Arafat is a Bangladeshi journalist currently serving as a staff reporter at Ekhon TV, a prominent business television channel. In October 2024, he was appointed as a member of the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust, reflecting his active involvement in supporting the welfare of fellow journalists.
He was born on March 3, 1990, in the prestigious Muslim family of Rangpur.
He completed his primary education at Badarganj Model Primary School. He successfully completed SSC & HSC from Cantonment Public School & College (BUSMS), Parbatipur, Dinajpur.
Completed graduation and post-graduation in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Development Alternative.
Work Experience:
Sazid Arafat started his career in journalism as a student in 2012. At first he was working as a photojournalist at Focus Bangla News. He also worked as a feature reporter for popular newspapers Daily Samakal, Daily Banik Barta, and Daily Ittefaq.
In December of 2014, started working at a news-based channel, ‘SOMOY TV.’ After working there successfully as a research executive and reporter for about 7 years, joined ‘EKHON TV’ in December 2021.
Apart from covering conventional topics, he has also reported extensively on subjects related to sustainable environments, climate change, human rights, culture, politics, social issues, etc.
Training, Workshop & Fellowship:
Sazid Arafat participated in various types of NGO workshops and training based on climate change and the environment and other issues.
Successfully completed an online course on ‘Investigative Journalism’ from MRDI in 2021.
In 2021, successfully completed the training on ‘Factcheck Journalism’ from Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB).
In 2022, Sazid completed the online course in ‘Safety and Security in Journalism’ from MRDI.
Successfully participated in the media training workshop on ‘Climate Governance: Global and National Perspectives’ in 2024.
In 2024, completed a fellowship on ‘Just Energy Transition,’ which was provided by Oxfam.
Beyond reporting, Arafat is deeply committed to fostering trust in the media and upholding the standards of responsible journalism.
When not in the newsroom, Arafat enjoys photography, reading, and traveling. He believes in the power of journalism to inform, engage, and create positive change in society.
